The button is a white disk that is made of acrylic or plastic material and is used as the game’s dealer. Once the button goes up, it signifies that a major decision has to be made or that a move – wrong or right – has just been made. If the button shows the alert, it could be taken to mean that a player is on it. “I was the one in the dealer position when the button went off” and “She was on that button so she would not have had that hand and still call” are two expressions which refer to a poker player with this term in perspective. The only exception to other types of poker games is found with the Maryland game where the dealer button is mostly found at the left side of where it’s supposed to be. Its made this way so that when a player is on it, s/he will have to put the blind bet and play first in future rounds.
As an alert system that is used to mark a specific position on a poker table, a dealer button marks out the two positions belonging to the dealer and player. In some poker games with a professional dealer, the button marks the player who assumes the position of the dealer. This is the one who acts in a gaming system that has a fixed order and is also the one who deals out the last card. The player is called the one on the button. There are other kinds of buttons used in poker like the blind button which is used to show that a player is not present when it gets to their turn to place a blind bet. In this case, the person will be made to wager a bet before the game can move on.
