In poker games, a player is said to “wake up” with a hand when the person has a strong starting hand. This happens more often where there has already been some gaming action taking place in front of the player. In some home poker games with broad rules for this term, it may mean folding a player’s hands when an opponent makes a raise with the button. A player should learn to make large raises when the dealer button limps. This also includes a “wake up” with a hand.
“Simply because her opponent has long been firing home with big wins doesn’t mean she didn’t wake up with a good hand at the end.” To make a raise for more than 3 straight times in a row is probably not a good idea when playing in a poker tournament. It may make an opponent to wake up. If the opponent plays back and calls for more raises with some very good hands, goes on to make re-raises with the best hands, then a player is advised to avoid pot sized raises unless they want to go all-in with that hand.
