The greatest poker hand ever played took place in Las Vegas in 1955. The hand was decided by a jack of diamonds on the end, the same final card that later appeared in the poker movie, “The Cincinnati Kid.” However, while the movie depicted a poker hand with a straight flush beating a full house, the greatest poker hand ever played was won with a simple one pair.
One pair of jacks took, in 1955, what was then the biggest poker pot in the history of the game. Who says nothing is not a cool hand?
The poker game was five-card stud, and the principals were Nick the Greek Dandalos and The Grand Old Man Johnny Moss. It seems that Nick the Greek Dandalos, who at that time was known as one of the biggest gamblers in the world, he came to Las Vegas. more

We’ve all heard the famous Damon Runyon line about a man wanting to bet you that he can make the jack of diamonds jump out of a brand new deck of cards and squirt cider in your ear. “Do not bet him, for as sure as you do you will end up with an earful of cider.” Especially in the gambling world, an easy thing only looks easy, and you are well advised to evaluate the man first, and the proposition after.
I was recently at a filming of the UK television show Late Night Poker, which gathers fifty of the top poker players from Europe and the world for a four day Texas Hold’em tournament in a television studio in Cardiff, Wales. As each poker player plays only four to eight hours in the studio, it leaves about seventy-two hours of free time spent shuttling between the green room and the bar. more

For thirty years I have been playing an unusual game called Butcher at my weekly card game. The rules are very simple but the game seems to compress the dynamic of bluffing to a simple game.
After putting up an ante, lets say a dollar, each player receives one card down and beginning on the dealers left, decides whether or not they will play or check.
After going around the table one player usually decides to play and following players must either play or fold. Those that checked in the first round get another chance to decide to play. more

The text and structure of the UIGEA make clear that no changes to underlying substantive gambling laws are intended. As an initial matter, the UIGEA’s prohibition only betting or applies to unlawful internet gambling: “No person engaged in the business of wagering may knowingly accept (the proceeds of certain financial transactions) in connection with the participation of another person in unlawful Internet gambling.
“Unlawful Internet gambling,” in turn, “means to place, receive, or otherwise knowingly transmit a bet or wager by any means which involves the use, at least in part, of the Internet where such bet or wager is unlawful under any applicable Federal or State law in the State or Tribal or wager is initiated, received, or otherwise made.”2 Furthermore, the UIGEA is, as its title suggests, an enforcement mechanism and not a substantive gambling law. more

The announcement of the Harrahs to start up with a new poker site has left Poker Star Phil Helmuth acting out again. At an interview in the “Hardcore Poker Show” Helmuth displayed his aggression towards the Harrah’s, who were the owners of the “World Series of Poker.” He stated that several of the leading online poker sites are likely to make a team to work against big guys entering in to business. He added up stating “There’s a huge battle brewing.”
The Harrahs have contracted 888 Holdings to work on forming the online poker platform and launching it early in 2010. The decision of the Harrahs is soon to materialize in 2010 which is just 3 months from now. It is expected that when the big guy in land based gambling is going to start up online, they are likely to put an end to competition monopolizing the poker industry. The specifics about the kind of site that they going to start up are not evident yet until date. more
