About 67 runners made it to the felt at the Horseshoe Casino in Council Bluffs, Iowa to participate in the World Series of Poker Circuit Championship on February 23, 2009. The notable competitors in the series were Bob Slezak, the WSOP bracelet winner, Alan “Ari” Engel, Eric Stiglets, Bernard Lee and Jeremy Byrum, WSOP Tunica final-table player.
On Day #1, Jeff Banghart made it with the chip lead and only 30 players made it to Day #2. Jesse Hale amassed his stack at the Main Event earlier and he also joined the final side event of a Pot-Limit Omaha which was being organized at the same time.
Hale played a bit of live multi-tabling and he built up a considerable amount of stacks in both of the events. He completed the Day #1 of the Main Event ahead of the other top five chip stacks. A number of noticeable players made it to the rail on Day #1, which consisted of Bernard Lee, Bob Slezak, David Dicken, and Jeremy Byrum.
Slezak obtained all his chips where he played with pocket kings followed by a raise from Timothy Begley and a nonstop re-raise from Harold Kruger. Eric Stiglets contributed the final of the chips in the middle with varying results a bit later.
The top ten in chip leadership were as follows:
