Day #2 of 2009 for LA Poker Classic Main Event

Nearly, 400 players came back to Commerce Casino for Day #2 of 2009 for LA Poker Classic Main Event. Antonio Esfandiari the leading player in the WPT made it with a huge stack of chips in the event setting back big names like Phil Hellmuth, Erik Seidel, Gavin Griffin and Mike Matusow.

Another interesting story of a limelight player is that of Kofi Farkye, which is comparatively a newcomer to the event and he finished Day #2 squeezing at Esfandiari’s heels to make it to the chip lead.

Farkye made a mutual table for much of the day with Hellmuth and David Chiu; however, the brand name of his co-players did not in any way intimidate him. As Farkye
was ahead in stacking up his chips in piles, Antonio Esfandiari was mounting chips at par. Esfandiari went for the check-raise, and he made another 100,000 to his stack after Nam with whom he was playing heads up folded.

Eventually, at the end of the day Esfandiari was in the lead where Farkye was close behind him; however, the field also consisted of some of the scary pros like Phil Ivey and Bertrand “ElkY”.

The top ten players in the field were:

  • Antonio Esfandiari with 405,000
  • Kofi Farkye with 391,000
  • Mike Sowers with 337,900
  • Anthony Venturini with 211,800
  • Haralabos Voulgaris with 210,400
  • KJ Nam with 200,500
  • Jason Dewitt with 191,800
  • Adam Geyer with 188,000
  • Cody Slaubaugh with 183,100
  • Bertrand Grospellier with 178,900
