Pro-Poker Verdict In Eastern Pennsylvania

A judgmental decision was made by an Eastern Pennsylvania jury who passed a verdict that poker is not a game of luck, but declared it as being something related to the skill of the player. This verdict led to the dismissal of a case proposed against a defendant who was sentenced to be jailed for organizing a real money poker game.

This verdict adds to the decision and strengthens the increasing proof of evidence that the element of poker is lot related to skill as far as long term success of the game is concerned.

This ruling was given by the Columbia County Judge Thomas A. James.

Thomas cancelled the charges projected against Walter Watkins.

Walter Walkins organized poker games and the poker event was attacked after being organized by one secret Pennsylvania state flock. The game did not have any kind of rake being taken; however, the players were encouraged to provide with tips for the table dealers, and one of the dealers was also convicted with related charges and the same was dismissed as well.

In making his decision about this case, the Judge made note of the many number of poker books, which are available in the market and among other factors he also marked the books and the content there in as a proof of the skill element of the game.

“Simply, if chance predominates, Texas Hold’em is gambling. If skill predominates, it is not gambling. It is apparent that skill predominates over chance in Texas Hold’em poker.” remarked the judge.

This verdict was extolled by many poker players. Many of the poker-related happenings are being watched by the federal and state level organizations.

Fascinatingly, the pro-poker verdict runs opposed to a decision which was done in eastern Pennsylvania relating to the seizing of more than $40,000, the suspected profits of games which was run by a lawyer, who asserted the legality of poker in his defense. This case started in 2007 and the Pennsylvanian attorney General filed the movement for seizure in the year August, 2008.
