Statistical Evidence Produced For The Defense Of Poker

Poker has been deemed to be a non-criminal deed in a poker case related trial by a jury based in Colorado. The case was filed after a raid in a bar in Greeley, Colorado. According to reports, nearly 30 players were involved in the game when the raid took place. This was indeed organized as a social gaming event; however, the charges were recorded for professional gambling versus Kevin Raley and 4 other people who were in charge of the event.

The case had a strong support of a poker media team who were very strong in proving that poker was a game of skill. Per Colorado law, this point was strong enough in proving that this game is based on skill and not gambling.

The Colorado law particularly excuses “bonafide contests of skill.” The Defense attorney Todd Taylor offered enough testimony in this regard. He provided the jury with valid proof and statistical reports, which asserted poker to be a game of skill.

This particularly was driven by an assertion of a Statistics Professor Robert Hannum, from the University of Denver who has asserted the high skill element required for this game, from a statistical point of view. This proof stood a solid proof in affirming the jury that poker is a high skill element. The statistical evidence produced for the defense of poker is likely to be taken as evidence in a number of future poker cases falsely filed as gambling, when truly poker relates to skill.
