Perhaps the most popular card game in the US is poker. Poker, and all its other variants, has a spot on the players psyche, whether they are amateur or professional, as being the “game”; however high or low you are rolling with it. So what actually is poker anyway? It is a card game wherein a pot of bets will be put up by the players. The amount of bet depends on the hand or cards that you have against the deduced value of the cards of each of your opponent. The main thing is that if you think that you have the highest set of cards that are dealt among your opponents; the higher it is you will bet on. You will also bet lower if you think you could not trump the cards of the others. The risk of losing is dependent on the perception or calculation that you have against your opponent.
Poker has evolved into many variants during the years after it was introduced. The most popular or original of which is the straight poker. Here the players are dealt with the same amount of cards within a round; they could bluff, raise the pot, or lower their bet accordingly as per the situation requires. Historically this type of poker game has been the oldest in existence. And from this beginning, different variants has been developed and played throughout the world.
Another type of poker game is the seven card stud. This has gained popularity in the eastern part of the US. It owes its success to its playability and a large player base that continuously plays it, to the extent of prolonging its life in circulation.
Another type is called the draw poker, wherein bets will be drawn up and collected after all the players has been dealt their individual hands for a particular round. On the other hand, the five card draw is the most common variant that is played in most US homes; this also is the oldest variant of the poker game that we know of today. Although the five card draw is famous and easy to learn, it is no longer played among the casinos in the US.
As in any poker game the players usually focus on having a game plan or strategy in winning hands; but oftentimes tactics with regards to game-play is being neglected resulting to dismal results in the poker table. Arming yourself with the right tactics could go a long way and in many cases you must balance this with strategy to get the results you want.
Pinpointing your opponent’s weakness is a good tactic for you to have that edge. Understanding the bluffs and the body movement’s of players that are still in the game would certainly be useful. Developing an eye for this usually takes considerable amount of time. The best way to apply this skill is through practice. It is advisable to play first with family members or friends before hitting the big time. This will let you sharpen your tactics before rolling the dollars in a poker table.
