The World Series of Poker won’t be called a major event for nothing. Every year, hundreds of the best players around the planet gather together to play perhaps one of the world’s favorite card games, none other than poker. Since the introduction of the poker game to the United States in the 1830’s, there have been several variants of the game, with different methods of dealing as well as rules as to which hand wins. Among the known poker variations are Texas Hold’em, Seven Card Stud, and Omaha Poker. Another variant of poker that can be played online or elsewhere is Razz Poker. What is Razz Poker anyway? If you have heard of Seven Card Stud Poker, and are already familiar with it, then Razz Poker won’t be that difficult to understand. As a matter of fact, authorities or experts in poker alternatively call Razz as Seven Card Stud Low.

Generally, the winner of Seven Card Stud Poker should be the player with the best hand of five cards. The best hand means he should have the highest ranking set among his opponents. To understand more on this, make sure you are familiar with ranks of card hands, like three of a kind, flush, straight, royal flush, and others.

Now, how different is Seven Card Stud Low or Razz Poker from the abovementioned game? The winner, in this case, is not the one with the highest hand, but the player with the lowest hand. This means, it would be better is you had the combination 5-4-3-2-A, than having K-Q-J-10-9, for example. The combo 5-4-3-2-A is also called the wheel. It is said to be the best combo for winning a hand at Razz Poker. Flushes and straights will not make a difference as to which player has the best Razz Poker hand.

Here is a brief overview of game play. After blind bets are placed, the dealer gives all the players three cards: two of which are face down and visible only to the player, while the third one is face up or revealed. First round of betting commences, then the dealer shows one card face up, termed as fourth street. Betting follows, then the fifth street card is dealt.

Same happens when the sixth street card is dealt. The final card is not revealed to the players, and remains face down until after the final betting round. After this is the showdown, so the winner can be determined.
