The G2E Global Gaming Expo has become the preeminent showcase for the gaming industry, and for this year’s show, the World Series of Poker decided to come along for the ride.
Harrah’s decided to grab 750 square feet of convention floor space for this year’s Expo, and hosted what wound up being one of the booths at the show that attracted the most attention. Why, you ask? Poker.
The WSOP had some big time professional poker players come in, and play some poker (no money allowed!) with conventioneers, and help raise awareness of the WSOP brand.
Among the top poker professionals on hand to play were bracelet winners Scotty Nguyen, Antonio Esfandiari, and David Williams. Jean-Robert Bellande, the pro poker player who also recently appeared on the TV show Survivor, was also on hand offering tips on how to survive on the green felt.
World Series of Poker Tournament Director Jack Effel was the emcee for the festivities, and kept the crowd entertained with quips and ‘play by play’ commentary of the goings on at the poker table. The always gregarious Scotty Nguyen was entertaining the crowd with his antics, and big personality.
All in all, about 90 convention goers, selected on a first come, first served basis were allowed to participate in the poker action, which took place over the course of an afternoon.
Winners of the exhibition matches got free WSOP merchandise, as well as merchandise from the G2E, and other exhibitors.
While only three matches were played throughout the course of the day, convention officials acknowledged that, with the high demand, the tables could have been running all day.
